To reach high school athletes, we created a pamphlet called “Sport’s Devastated,” a play on Sports Illustrated. (I cleared the title with the magazine.) We promoted the initiative on television shows and distributed over 60,000 copies to high school coaches across the region. We also supported national legislation to make the possession of steroids illegal for other than medical purposes, and we supported the Los Angeles Board of Education’s efforts to mandate educational efforts about steroids throughout the school system.
